History
retiSoft
was established in the early winter of 1997 to develop the embedded
software for the Functional Evaluation and
Training Systems (FEATS) Cable Column system. The prototype
for this system debuted at the American Physical Therapists'
Association (APTA) convention in Orlando, June 1998 and beta test
versions shipped to the Physical Therapy departments of three prominent
universities in November and December 1998. Additional projects in the
health, fitness, and physical therapy industry are currently in
development.
In the late fall 1998,
initial contact was established with another small company
specializing in equipment for the telecommunications industry. One
project is currently in development with others in the planning stage.
retiSoft, inc. was
incorporated in the State of Florida in January, 1999.
Embedded real-time software can be the
most challenging software to develop.
retiSoft is positioned to provide the necessary expertise
to other companies, small or large, that have embedded system projects
but lack the necessary resources.
retiSoft's participation in your project can range from
expert consultation to complete system
development, depending on your needs.
Founder's Experience
Software &
Systems Engineering Development Experience:
Because retiSoft
has such a limited company history, it is important to understand the
background of the company's founder and principal engineer. That
experience spans over 30 years of specifying and/or implementing
embedded real-time systems, running the
gamut of high reliability government and commercial applications. Some
of those projects include:
-
Government / Military Systems:
- Department
of Defense (Air Force) systems that monitored selected
data from various sensors to detect and analyze, in real
time, the detonation of nuclear devices.
-
NASA / Department of Defense Space Transportation
System ("Shuttle") Launch Processing System (LPS) for the
Air Force launch site at Vandenberg AFB, CA.
- An integrated
avionics system for a new generation Italian Army
anti-tank combat helicopter.
- A real-time
digital map system for a Japanese Air Force
transport aircraft.
- Department
of Defense (Navy) fiber optic bus system for a new
generation attack aircraft.
- Display and
fiber optic bus systems for a new generation Department
of Defense (Army) combat helicopter.
- Commercial
Systems:
- Telephone
company multi-services (in-home alarm, meter-reading,
and data services) system.
- Major city
newspaper system that networked stand-alone composition
systems.
- Satellite
command and control ground station software products
and systems.
- Satellite
simulation tool kit system.
In addition, the founder is named on three U.S.
Patents:
- April 11, 2000 -
Satellite Simulator (Pat. No. 6048366).
- April 24, 1984 -
Method of Controlling Message Transmission Sequence in
Multi-Station Communications System (Pat. No. 4445214).
- June 1, 1982 -
Multiple Services System Using Telephone Local Loop
(Pat. No. 4332980).
Software
Engineering Process Experience:
During the last 20+ years,
this practical experience has also led to extensive involvement and
leadership positions on corporate process groups. The function
of these groups has been to define the standards, policies, and
procedures for the organization's systems and software engineering
departments through the creation of various manuals and other official
corporate documents, selection of standard engineering and management
tools, and establishing training courses in the processes.
Software
Engineering Training and Education:
retiSoft 's
founder has been actively involved in developing and delivering
technical and management courses in both industrial and academic
environments for almost same time span. Course topics have ranged
from object-oriented techniques (analysis, design, and programming),
C++ programming, real-time programming (including embedded system
kernels and executives) software project management, to recent
offerings in the
Software Engineering Institute's
Personal Software
ProcessSM
(PSPSM).
retiSoft
's Mission
There are many companies
that have the hardware and system engineering resources to create new
and innovative embedded computer systems, but lack the special skills
needed to design and implement the mission software. In
retiSoft, these companies can
find that critical expertise, developed over more than 30 years as the
embedded software industry grew and matured, ready to apply to their
special projects and products.
retiSoft stands
ready to work with companies, small and large, in a flexible relationship
that best suits the interests of both parties. From providing consultation,
training, specification development, or other lesser roles of support, to
taking full responsibility for the software specification and development,
retiSoft
can adapt to a variety of technical and business environments.
